Guacamole – Where Would Our Nachos Be Without It?

by Nicki on September 16, 2010

Let’s take a moment to remember this most important of days- September 16th is National Guacamole Day! We all have the Aztecs to thank for this delicious treat, who were enjoying it as early as the 16th century.

How do you like your guacamole – sweet and smooth, or spicy and chunky?

Your staple is the avocado. Consider it a therapeutic way to release the day’s aggression by mashing it over and over again. Most standard recipes also include lemon or lime juice, garlic, tomatoes, cilantro, tomatoes, onions and jalapeños. But if you’re craving a walk on the wild side, why not try a new recipe with more adventurous ingredients:

- Asparagus
- Black Olives
- Bacon
- Wasabi
- Adobo
- Ginger
- Cream Cheese
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Cottage Cheese

I happen to love the Portuguese (or Brazilian, or Mozambican) version- just sugar and lemon! Hey, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
