Pass Me an Apron

by Katia on April 26, 2010

I’ve been noticing buzz for aprons lately. Retro aprons, girly aprons, aprons to make you feel like a domestic goddess… Forget protecting your clothes: aprons are today’s fantasy wear for the (female) home cook. With all these ruffles and pink numbers, aprons now seem to be the trendiest, girliest thing that will probably ever grace your kitchen.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I mean, I grew up in a household where we cooked while wearing my grandmother’s Japanese cotton jackets instead of aprons (she simply had more than she knew what to do with so we put them to good use). I thought it was fun but in retrospect it probably was a bit odd.

In life as in art, ludicrousness is a matter of degrees. So pass me a frilly hostess apron already!
